Disconnected Layer Woes

I do hair. Most of you know that.  I've even done most of your hair right?  Or I've talked to you about hair.  I'm going to familiarize you with a trade term, called 'disconnected layers'.  Pretty self explanatory right? Most layers are soft and blended.

Like this..

Some like this are more choppy, but still blended...

This is disconnected...
or this...

even this...

To get technical, bangs ('fringe' being the technical term) are a disconnected layer.

I'm not opposed to disconnected layers. They are fun, and unique.  Even if they are a bugger to grow out.

But there is one kind of D.L. I am apposed to.  The self made kind.  The self made kind by a three year old.  The kind made by a three year old witnessed by her cousin of the same age, in the confines of her Nannies basement bathroom while going unwatched by her older brother.

The kind that looks like this....
and this...
I really couldn't get a good shot of it, to show you all how HORRIBLE it really is!!  o.k. It's not THAT bad.  It does blend a little, when it's not sticking straight up!  Thank-goodness she has curly hair to hide it!

Oh, I am sooo sorry. I was thinking while reading, at least she has curly hair to cover it up. :)

It could have been worse... I guess. But I'm still not happy. It took me FOREVER to grow her hair out like that!!

Hehehehe, it happens to everyone!! The funniest part about it? She was so CONFIDENT in herself! Oh, I just cut my hair, Mom! Priceless and Sorry her cousin wasn't more responsible (but secretly greatful she didn't do it too!) :)

Yeah, she didn't understand what the big deal was! I think she was proud of herself! And Ms. L knew better than to join B this time! ;)

Oh dear! I loved how you led into that! I would laugh except we had a similar experience two years ago and time doesn't always heal all wounds. I still get a little steamed about it. Grow hair Grow!

So that's what I've been trying to get the hairstylist to do all these years! I say make it choppy and they cut it the SAME way every time. I didn't know how to better explain it until now! I want disconnected layers in back please!

T- once again you save my hair. :)

C- another trade term that would work would be 'blunt' layers. Disconnected can turn out too choppy. Depends on the look. :)
